Liveset’s coming!

Best piece of news of the year and we’re only in february: I’m preparing a liveset.

Well, as you know, some people do livesets, some try to mashup their tracks together, some draw ducks on mspaint and others forget to plug their midi gears.
Right, I’ll try to stick in the middle of that big mess and open for the “demo in paris third edition” gigs.

The party is held on the very well-known terrasse of the Batofar.
First part of the event starts at 6pm, they’ll play some demos. Then, I’ll open around 8pm, for a fabulous moment, a set that should be around 30 and 40 minutes, a mashup of my own tracks. Playing next, my good friend Alkama who will spin some nice house and next, Moonove (yep, “le papy”) will play some of his own tracks. Let’s thank again Reynald for letting us know and feature both alkama and I on the party. Then, chiptuners will throw gameboys (spintronic) and ataris (ultrasyd)

I actually didn’t have any livesets ready, I didn’t even think I would do one ever… some friends may know I played live some years ago but never retried, prefering focusing on the (lazy|composition) side.

So here I am, rendering some tracks, remixing, exporting again, editing a bit here and there and well, I must say some (few) of my tracks are interesting when separated from the whole story, just being looped the easiest ways.
Of course, everything is taking a lot more time than planned and don’t go as well as expected but sometimes, I get what I want.

Of course, I’m also reworking some (few) tracks that were made using schismtracker.

And what do we have here?

A new version of “Majestueux” , a module I’ve composed for the revision 2011 demoparty? XMAS AGAIN!
No need to say I’m going to spend the night throwing some more rendering, but… tracks by tracks, sequences by sequences :)

(yes, +5bpm, what else… and don’t ask for a timestretched version mixed with Bieber samples)

So if you can make it, come and meet me and also, buy me a pint.

Believe me, it’s going to happen like this:

teh fonz!

teh fonz!

ps: if you can’t make it, you can at least expect a well deserved record of the liveset, will of course post about it.

Two Left Ears – 6 Pack Of Dolls (the princess is in another rmx)

A remix I did for Two Left Ears.

Had to go with this one, the zelda theme you know. Not that I knew I would turn it into a chillwave anthem, I just felt it would be some kind of challenge I would have to accept.

Plus, they are friends, good friends, it’s always better this way.

Support them!

ps: book them, the liveact includes live veejaying, double bass, fingersnaps and I even heard there are some patterns of kaneel displayed on the screen (a little bird told me so) !

Is it christmas again?

Or France finally got its AAA back ?

"Citrate de bétaïne" loves your liver and your liver loves it too!

“Citrate de bétaïne” is an old track of mine released for the Camomille (first ed.) 100th release, a big compilation like the ones Camomille netlabel set up many times.

Anyway, first time trying to make something a bit “braindance” (or not), you gotta love the big distorted-flanged kick happening somewhere near the end of the track eh!

Hey guys, it’s from 2006/2007! I wish I had monitors back in these days, it would have sounded quite better I think. Don’t hate me if you find it’s particularly poorly mixed.

ps: advice, lower the high freqs… I didn’t even bother relistening to the track, I know about the old speakers I was using back in the “ol’ times” and believe me, you want to lower the high freqs.

it’s the end of the year!

Definitely right.
We are getting closer and closer to the end of the year and I didn’t post anything related to cats, top 10 lists, best wishes and random thoughts? It’s time to change this!

It’s finally finished!

2011 has been pretty intense, I now can watch it happening again, carefully seated in a comfortable sofa (lies, I’m sitting on a plastic chair).
Not only because I became a father and these 6 last months appeared as a whole year but also since I managed to release an album I had in mind for years, hence why it sounded too old for some people… I guess I finally managed to telepathically share my vision of it through my first attempts. I also got a split with lackluster released on Awkward silence rec. Click the following covers, just to be sure you finally listened to these two releases (it happens a lot of people didn’t even bother checking it, yes, I know, it’s fucked up, the world is, son)

kaneel x lackluster

All in all, I indeed finally put a nice _period_ to kaneel as a musician moniker.
I believe it’s high time to think about the future™, go forward, stop the pingpong loop, rehearse on spare time (oh no, not again) and why not, start new projects. It’s also true I felt very empty lately but I have been listening to a lot of music and every time I’ve been listening to _pretty anything_, I felt I wanted to make music. I guess I’m loading my inspiration batteries this way, not making music much during a long period where I feel that “I WANT TO MAKE EVERY MUSICAL GENRES“. Lately, I’ve been addicted _once again_ to David Bowie and especially “Ashes to ashes“, this track is serious space funk if you carefully listen to the bassline. But in the end, I know I’ll end the week listening to some crazy Monolith music.

Back to 2011?

Who need top 10 lists? I guess nobody really do.
I’ve done many things, listened to many things, read many books and if you pay attention to my twitter account, you should know what I’ve been doing/listening/reading during the year. So yes, this year, no top 10 lists, because nobody care!

Inside of you, you know what has been important during the year 2011.

I prefer you guys come to Paris, buy me some stout beers and discuss about all the pretty things in the world (and no, furries are no pretty things at all, jazz musicians are). Eventually, we’ll discuss about 2011. Most probably, we’ll discuss about 2045.

And if we don’t meet in 2012, let’s try it again in 2013.

I wish you all a happy new year.

Back to the sources… NOT!

Gunpoint rehearsal

It all started with Raphael Bastide (UMADEMEDOIT) contacting me via twitter and reminding me one of my deepest wishes: Making the soundtrack of one, or more, videogames.

So he directed me to a YT video where you can witness a pretty original videogame that happen to be still in development… and looking for musicians. Cha-ching you said?

So weeeeellll, I was bored tonight, Maëlle’s been sleeping quiet, and I felt like I would still try to give it a shoot, who know what could happen… I had these old videogames in mind, I had these FM pads in mind, these noises and stuff, and that mutant bassline, so retro and cool in my mind… and here it is. 7minutes of unorganised and unmixed (headphone-unmixed even) idea, very me to be honest.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

So I started slowly to synthesize and sample some sounds, add some layers, you know the good ol’ routine right?…
And I just don’t know what happened but I had to keep it rather very enigmatic though my mind made me add more elements and more elements and in the end I was recording live some good old plucked strings… don’t ask, really.

The main idea is that, in my mind of course, layers should grow and grow and grow according to the way the player is actually interacting with (within?) the game. You get the idea, something that is not stuck, not repeating, evolving constantly. Of course, it would mean to code a wav sequencer into the game but why not ? That would add the necessar depth right?

Anyway, what you guys think about it? I didn’t even check the other music demos that you can find on YT, most probably because I don’t want to feel ridiculous. Anyway… thanks for listening and eventually, commenting!

ps: quite funny I didn’t see the coder’s post about what he exactly had in mind and that… my submission actually fit 100% with his idea.

What lé?

So what’s up except the sky?
Well, I’m just doing tests. Not much music to be honest. Tired.

Wait&see :)

Allégresse

Allégresse
nom féminin
Sens: Joie très vive exprimée ouvertement.
Synonyme: enthousiasme
Anglais: elation

Not only being a pretty looking french word, “allégresse” is a word that characterize a pure and beautiful joy you express freely to the outside world, preferably loudly… and of course, seldomly (else, you’re just a crazy guy).
I don’t know why but when I read this word, I think about “Légèreté” (thoughtlessness). Probably because a feeling of allégresse is something most expected when one is still a child, as you need thoughtlessness to be able to fully experience this joy of life (joie de vivre)

I think it’s actually a nice word for a nice track I uploaded on my soundcloud. A track that sound like the first months of being a father (yes, insert your favourite faces here, I’m being a little (emo) girl once again and it’s more than fitting the topic!)
